At The Mill, we believe in more than design but designing a lifestyle. Beauty runs deeper than your home or your wardrobe, it is rooted within ourselves. Together we can create a master plan to help you find both inner and outer beauty." Can't wait until Thursday, get the "skinny" below ... The Mill : We love the message that you portray, that outer beauty stems from the quality of what we’re putting in our bodies and to feel good on the outside, we must feel good on the inside. We cannot wait to learn more on Thursday, but what can you tell us what integrative beauty is and what it means to you?
EA: Integrative beauty is creating beauty from both the inside out and the outside in. Quite simply, when we take care of our inner health—by getting the right nutrients and the right amount of exercise, drink clean water and detox regularly—it shows on the outside. Our complexions glow, our hair is healthy, our eyes are bright, our bodies are strong. And when we take care of the “packaging,” meaning when we take steps to create an outward appearance that pleases us—this is where things like botox and dermafillers come in—then it makes us healthier on the inside. Because we’re happier and more confident, we’re also less stressed, which means less inflammation in our bodies and therefore, less illness. The Mill: How can you summarize your mission and positioning within the natural beauty space? EA: Primarily we are concerned with our clients’ overall health. This means we want them to have a positive self-image and feel good, both about their energy levels and their appearance. Addressing things like clear-mindedness and stress reduction are why many of our services are targeted around fulfilling nutritional needs and detoxing through sweat and hydration. We don’t want to just focus on the outside. We want to help clients shift their awareness, so they understand that true, radiant beauty starts from the inside. None of our services are surgical. Our dermafillers, which are used to lessen wrinkles and hollows, are all made of substances found naturally within your body, and they work with your body’s natural processes to stimulate collagen growth. Some of our products, such as Kybella and Restylane Lyft, are actually designed to help you avoid more invasive procedures, such as chin augmentations and nose jobs. The Mill: What is a service that you offer that you think everyone should try at least once? EA: Everyone loves Botox, but I would suggest that everyone try an integrative aesthetics consult. There are small things that we can do to dramatically change the projection of our aesthetic lives, and sometimes it takes something like a consult to understand that projection. Part of the consult is examining your complexion with special equipment, to help us understand the lurking damage that isn’t visible under normal conditions. You can’t address an issue until you know that an issue is there. The Mill: What is your mantra when it comes to your work or assisting clients? EA: Don’t just do something. Do something beautifully. The Mill: Can you explain to us what the IV-cocktails are and what benefits someone can expect to gain from having their own custom IV-cocktail made? EA: Our bodies absorb nutrients differently. Sometimes autoimmune or digestive issues we don’t even know we have block the absorption of key nutrients. By taking in nutrients intravenously, we bypass the absorption process and deliver them directly to the blood stream. Think of a custom IV as a prescriptive vitamin. You can buy a generic vitamin, which still gives you some benefit, but by identifying exactly what your body needs through a micronutrient test, we are able to customize that vitamin to those exact needs. How much more efficient is that? The Mill: What’s the skinny on botox? As in, how do you explain the benefits botox can have for someone that is interested in getting the injection? EA: Botox has been used cosmetically since 1980's and is one of the most frequently used cosmetic pharmaceuticals. When you’re younger and your lines are very faint, Botox can actually prevent those deep wrinkles from forming. In later stages of life, Botox can not only treat the deep wrinkles, it can keep them wrinkles from progressing. The Mill: During an aesthetic consultation, what sort of factors are being addressed and adjusted? EA: I initially ask the client what her/his overall goals are and then we discuss their favorite features. I believe it’s about highlighting your inherent beauty, rather than trying to “create” or falsify beauty in any way. It’s about emphasizing our good traits and qualities, and we all have good traits and qualities. I also begin by doing a mathematical assessment of a client's features and we do a skin analysis. We discuss all the treatment options and formulate a plan together. The Mill: What differences do you hope you can make in Columbus, MS? EA: I want to introduce a new way of thinking about beauty and aesthetics to the people of Columbus. I want to help my neighbors become healthier, happier and more radiant people.
